| Synopsis

In the fall of 2020, choreographer Julia B. Laperrière premiered ‘Falla’ at the Schwankhalle Bremen. In a duet with guitarist Pia Achternkamp, she explored the transformative and empowering potential of the strap-on dildo for new images of female sexuality. A year later, she returns with ‘Falla VR – The Exhibition’, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in the performance through a virtual reality experience. The VR invites the viewer to experience the performance from the inside, be it dancing a tango with both performers, or even switching bodies and trying on the dildo themselves (virtually). The walkthrough installation – a surreal, immersive and bodily landscape that can be experienced visually, acoustically and physically – was designed in collaboration with visual artist Simone Kessler. ›Falla VR – The Exhibition‹ invites visitors to linger and equally offers space for individual experiences and encounters.

| Biography

Julia is a French-Canadian choreographer and performer based in Berlin. She holds a BA in Dance from the University of Quebec in Montreal and graduated in 2021 from the MA Exerce, the only master in choreographic studies in France, associated with ICI-CCN National Choreographic Center of Montpellier. As a Canadian artist navigating between Berlin, Montpellier and Montreal, the mix of languages, places, practices, people and genres – both artistic and identity related – constitute an integral part of her practice. Lately, she has been developing her research around the topic of the “dangerous woman” and is interested in archetypes, the representations of the female body on stage, new intimacies and dangerous dances. Her dance often expresses itself within the materiality of the relationship to objects and to the other. Indeed, she loves to collaborate with other artists, and has in the last years worked with Alfredo Zinola, Ursina Tossi, Costa Company, Sandra Man&Moritz Majce and Christoph Winkler amongst others. In the last two years she produced the works Falla, Falla VR-The Exhibition, What Will Come, and Swivel Open. These have been presented in fabrik Potsdam, Schwankhalle Bremen, Theater für Niedersachsen, Vierte Welt Berlin, Stamsund International Theatre Festival (NO) and Tangente Danse (CA).
